Cultural Strengthening for Family Violence Prevention

Strong Women Talking is dedicated to providing comprehensive support and education for First Nations communities and the Human Service Sector workforce. Through these culturally-safe and trauma-informed initiatives, it’s our mission to break the cycle of domestic and family violence (DFV) once and for all.

Through our culturally-informed Education & Training Workshops, we aim to foster cultural capability, promote healthy relationships, and offer tailored support for non-Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander service providers working with First Nations’ communities. Led by Founder and CEO Sono Leone-Weatherall, our team is committed to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and creating a future free from domestic and family violence.

Our aim is to break the cycle of violence in our families and create a safe healing space for First Nation women to heal from the impacts of trauma from violent relationships.

Education & Training Services

Cultural safety is essential when providing support services for First Nations’ women who have experienced domestic and family violence

This means understanding the unique cultural context in which we live and acknowledging the historical trauma and ongoing impacts of colonisation  faced by Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

Strong Women Talking’s Education and Engagement Team can tailor specialised Cultural Capability training to suit the needs of your support delivery.

Human Service Sector employees who work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities will achieve better outcomes if engagement, consultation, and negotiation are culturally informed.

The aim of our trauma-informed approach to Cultural Capability Building is to improve organisational service delivery within the Human Service, DFV Sector, and individual workforces. This applies specifically to groups taking steps to address family violence matters within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Through the process of educating and informing service providers on our cultural practices, we will ensure better outcomes for First Nation women accessing these mainstream services.
