Breaking the cycle of domestic and family violence, together.
A culturally-safe space to guide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women through an 8-week healing journey. Through our workshops for domestic violence, we will educate, equip and empower First Nations’ women to break the multi-generational cycle of domestic and family violence and sexual assault (DFVSA) once and for all.

ABOUT THE HEALING JOURNEY PROGRAM
Domestic & Family Violence Workshops Brisbane
The Healing Journey Program is a trauma informed and healing-informed practice which delivers culturally-appropriate, violence prevention–focused workshops and programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women aged 18+
Within our programs, we work to provide cultural support, promote healing and strengthen cultural identity through educating, equipping, and empowering First Nations’ women.
Aboriginal women and Torres Strait Islander women who take part in this program will learn about:
- Forms of abuse and the cycle of violence
- Healthy boundaries and healthy relationships
- Self love, self respect
- Visions, hopes and dreams
- Trauma informed practices for mental health, social and emotional wellbeing
- Current and intergenerational trauma impacting our bodies and how to heal from it
During our weekly sessions in Brisbane, we create a culturally-safe setting which empowers women to be able to speak openly with experienced Facilitators and Elders. We also provide confidentiality forms for participants to read and sign before commencement of all programs or domestic violence counselling in Brisbane. It is very important to us that each participant can gain the most from each program and the women’s Healing Journey Program as a whole.
Butchulla and Garrawa woman Sono Leone is the CEO and founder of Strong Women Talking and develops and leads all programs.
“I wanted to create a program for our First Nations’ women where they are comfortable and safe to start healing, to understand, to build their knowledge and live out their dreams and for the future. passions.
It’s reminding the women there is a black sisterhood that cares, and be around people who are encouraging. Our Aunties make up a huge part of what we do.. They have the lived experience so they are all knowledgeable ― they have warmth and love and dedication.”
