Sisters Connect & Elders Connect

Our Connect Programs

Sisters Connect

Social Education and Support

Sisters Connect is a social education initiative designed to maintain the vital social connections essential for trauma-informed healing. Women who have completed A Healing Journey are invited to join these fortnightly sessions, which have been empowering Strong Women Talking clients since 2019.

The Sisters Connect groups are co-designed with participants to ensure they reflect the needs and priorities of the women involved. These gatherings provide a safe space for education, discussion, and connection, exploring a wide range of important themes. Guest services are often invited to share information on topics such as housing, financial literacy, technology-facilitated abuse, systems abuse, and sexual violence awareness, among many others.

By fostering social and emotional intelligence, Sisters Connect supports women in their journey of transformation—from surviving to thriving. These groups are a cornerstone of Strong Women Talking’s mission to empower First Nations women as they move forward from trauma with strength and resilience.

Elders Connect

Culturally Safe Support and Connection

The Elders Connect program by Strong Women Talking is a beautiful connection between the Elders in Residence and women who have completed the Healing Journey Workshops. Elders bring a deep understanding and lived experience of the challenges faced by women connected to SWT. Their role is to create a culturally safe and nurturing space where women feel valued, respected, and cared for.

Through this initiative, Strong Women Talking Elders reach out to women who may feel disengaged or isolated from their families and communities. By maintaining contact and fostering kinship relationships, the program ensures these women remain connected and supported as they continue their healing journey.

Elders Connect provides a vital pathway for women who have completed A Healing Journey to maintain their progress, working towards breaking cycles of violence and reducing the likelihood of returning to harmful relationships.

These connections are particularly important for women who have experienced isolation due to domestic and family violence. Feeling valued and connected within their community helps women regain their sense of self-worth, empowering them to become strong contributors to their families and communities.
